Meet Your Farmer

I’m back. This article will let you know a little more about me (Nick). That’s important, right? You’re trusting us to provide you and those you care about with food (real food). I believe knowing where your food comes from is an important, and often overlooked part of our lives. Whether it’s a whole chicken, a pound of thick bacon, or even that pizza you brought home last night, we should try to know and have a better relationship with our food. I believe that, as farmers, we carry the responsibility of giving the animals we raise for meat a far better quality of life than the industry standard currently is. For me, that’s the least we can do.
So hang on, and here we go. My name is Nick Jones. I was raised in a small, county community called “Punkin Center”. You won’t likely find it on a map. I went to the local high school and was raised by two good parents. To this day, my dad is still one of my biggest heroes and we talk almost daily. A few years after high school was over, I had started a career in law enforcement. It was a great part of my life (Thirteen years!). You’re welcome anytime at my dinner table for more of those stories.

Maybe you can relate, but I had a path in life all laid out. Then God wadded up the story I had designed for myself and pitched it into the nearest trash can. What changed my life? Something that often does, a good woman and my sons. When I got married and had our first child, something kicked in. I began looking at the world differently. Suddenly, the world didn’t revolve around me at all. Who knew right? So, slowly, the “transition” began taking place.

From the beginning, I wanted to give the best of everything to my tribe. Admittedly, I failed quite often, but that drive never changed. After buying our farm, producing on it four years and dreaming lofty dreams, my better half came to me and said, “I want to go back to work full-time and you to quit your job and farm full time.” At this point, you’re either thinking, “That’s crazy” or “Man, she’s a keeper.” I lean to the latter.

By that point, we’d raised sheep, layer hens, bees, rabbits, dogs and of course a small army of sons. I knew my calling in life had changed. It was scary, but I knew the career change had already been made…I just hadn’t made the leap of faith yet. Then I did, and that was even scarier. Time did was it does though, it marched right on.

In writing this I brought my wife’s opinion. She has been with me for almost nine years. Courtney says I’m masculine but complex, and a very involved dad. I think she’s proud because I’ve always helped change diapers. She also said to tell people that my word is very important to me and I place a high value on integrity. We have a family creed that my oldest sons have heard me repeat at least a million times, “Love, Respect, Protect. If you’re doing the first one, then you’ve probably done the other two.” Outside of farming, my current interests are firearms, weight training and watching strongman contests on YouTube. If you haven’t watched the History Channels “Strongest Man in History”, I highly recommend it.

So, to date, plans have fallen into place and here I am telling you (the reader) that I’m here every day producing the quality you can taste from a farmer you can trust.
