Are YOU winning? The Five Sons Farmer’s perspective.

Hey, Reader. How have you been? I hope everything is as it should be on your end. Have you been busy too?  Same here, and that’s kinda what this post is about.  Quick sidebar- If you’re one of my market customers, and something is out of place, use the “Contact us” tab if we can help.  With that aside, let’s proceed.

Since I stepped into farming full-time, I’ve noticed the subtle changing of the weather more than usual. I’ve paid more attention to its effects on myself, children, wildlife, plants, and animals on our farm. Though I’ve developed a deeper perception of little things (like weather) here on the farm.  I find myself not stopping to smell the roses. I (your very own Five Sons Farmer) will put my nose to the grindstone and attempt to be an object perpetually in motion. Not unlike others, it’s simply pursuing some form of perceived success. But should that be our focus as the seasons come and go. Shouldn’t we be stopping and taking in the little moments as well?  Should we be taking time to stop and smell those roses?  Be honest with me.

In my opinion, it feels like there should be a season of rest.  Possibly, (as a first season full-time farmer) I’ll find it in this winter. The wash, rinse, and repeat cycle seems more likely though doesn’t it? I say that because, I find myself planting winter greens, and ordering the next batch of birds.  I know I’m not alone here. Is it merely our Americana that keeps us reaching for some external image of success?  As I was leaving my former career, I felt detached and had a strong desire to begin embracing the little moments. Now, it’s funny to see that even in my new profession things can be the same. Even in a home based business, you can easily remove yourself from the moment and switch to auto-pilot. If we don’t pursue the correct mindset, we can, and likely will, miss the important things.  We can fail at what we all internally value most, while simultaneously achieving what others see as success.

Weird huh?  The balancing act feels like being up on a tight rope high in the air and pushed from side to side by the winds of social media platforms.  Somehow, we have to have the moral compass to stay centered on what the real treasures in our lives are. I have to do this without compromising my animal husbandry skills. Also, as a small business owner, I have to devote time to developing customers and appreciating them too. Though at the end of our day, shouldn’t it be our family/loved ones we treasure most.  Just some food for thought.

Leave a comment and tune in next time where, as always, It’s Farming. Done Right.

Well said. a great outlook on running Five Sons Farms, raising a family not many companies build a business around and take care of customers while in the mix cherish family. Family is the backbone of any business as well as having same attitude toward customers. Taking a rest is always needed and remembered but those moments in time while working are also cherished, kids running through the yard, a deer standing in the corner of the field, accomplishing a mission all bring a smile and those moments will always be remembered. Five Sons Farm will be around for a long time and present customers and future customers do and will appreciate y’all’s values.
