An American Thanksgiving.

Can you smell that? It’s the smell of freedom. This is my second Thanksgiving working full-time from the farm and just that thought makes this moment so much sweeter. I know a couple of my former co-workers follow the blog. Thank you for what you do, and (even in winter) the grass is greener. It is a farm, so I suppose it should be, right? One year ago, I was in full swing building and working to get enterprises operational. In case you’re wondering, things are still that way.

Well, today is the big day! How do you feel about Thanksgiving right now? Is it just another day, or are you in the festive mood doing the holiday things? Are you staying home, or being a rebel by gathering with those you love. You rebels sound off in the comment section. I think as Americans, hustle and bustle are largely just part of the holidays. Even here on my map dot in North Alabama, we can get wrapped up in consumerism, and all of the wonderfully done marketing. Next thing you know, Thanksgiving will have come and gone. Whoosh! Then, here comes Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Pre-sales, extended Black Friday deals, and Christmas sales flooding your favorite social media apps, the radio, and on TV. You all know the routine by now.

So, what are you going to do to press life’s pause button? Or, at least put things in slow-motion for a few seconds? I’ll be at my dad’s house a few hours then home to the #farmfam for shrimp, hushpuppies, and hopefully (GOD willing) a peach cobbler. Yep, seafood on Thanksgiving. Our day to day is outside of the box, so the meal shouldn’t be a surprise. My pause(s) today will come when the kids wake up and give me a hug. Later, it’ll be when I hug my father and brother. Then, I’ll capture one more moment when I pray at the supper table and watch the kids dig into Courtney’s Thanksgiving meal. I suppose supper at the kitchen table is the one common thread or tradition here at Five Sons Farm. Others seem to come and go. Pause and share with us any longstanding traditions you have (related to Thanksgiving of course).

I always find that it’s easier to think of things (the pauses, traditions, things we’re thankful for) if I have a few examples. So, I’ll take the remainder to share what I’m personally thankful for today. I’m thankful for my wife and sons, and the summer of Saturdays with my dad and brother. I’m thankful for my wife’s willingness to work extra shifts while our business is growing. I’m thankful for my health, and the experience of virtual schooling my sons. God bless all good teachers! I’m thankful for the Browning Buckmark and Ruger Wrangler .22LR pistols and the fun they’ve brought me and the boys. I’m also thankful for you. If you’ve been a customer or just a follower/reader of our little movement, I’m truly grateful for your time and faith in Five Sons Farm. Special Thanks to those who signed up for our Winter Subscription Box here https://fivesonsfarm.net/product/pastured-poultry-protein-box-winter/. I pray (good or bad) your Thanksgiving is epic.

As always, Thanks for stopping by where it’s Farming. Done Right.

Well said. Those Saturday’s were great and those moments in time that are ever lasting all were a blessing. This year, and what a year, it’s standing back and thinking of the hard work, worry and dreams you’ve had then look at accomplishments and smile…. going forward. I’m thankful for my son’s, grandkids and daughter in laws who have brought me forever lasting moments this year
Today will be no different gathering as a family, rebels we probably are but more so strong family.
