I’ll start today’s blog with a couple of questions for readers. Are you where you want to be? If so, how did you get there? Did you answer, “Yes”, because it’s an accepted point on your path? Or, have you “made it” to that destination you’d always imagined? Think about your answers. I think I’m always trying to improve my situation. I’m not sure the course of action I take is always correct but I can self-reflect with the best and adjust from there. I’m happy with where I’m at, but I also want to constantly work on (or at) things. In the end, I suppose I’m only where I want to be in certain facets of my life.
Years ago I found Zig Ziglar’s “Wheel of Life”. Pause, open a new browser window, and just look at the images for it. It’s an easy way to check what’s out of balance. When I look at the “spokes” I immediately think I should do more to grow the business, do something nice for my wife, and eat less milk and cookies around bedtime. If that’s the perfect wheel, then half of my life has rolled around like a hard-boiled egg. What area of your wheel have you not invested in enough? It’s just not going to be perfect, is it? When we look at the wheel we find that we probably haven’t “arrived” just yet.
Every day is a snapshot in time. We’re all just revising our current self, and moving the metaphorical football forward. “Life’s this game of inches”-Al Pacino. I hope you treat it that way. If you’ve been driving so hard at one aspect of your life and it’s starting to pay, “Congratulations!” I do hope you’ll notice whatever else needs to be shored up before your wheel resembles a flat tire. Pray, I do the same too. I have fences (literal and metaphorical) that need mending. I’m pretty sure I’m always a good bit left of right where GOD wants me to be. How many hours do we spend looking at our phones? What could we use those hours for here in the real world?
Let’s just continue to work at it. In the immortal words of Charlie Daniels, “This is the end, but where I come from we don’t give up without a fight.” See you at the Morgan/Decatur farmers market in April, and thanks for stopping by where It’s Farming. Done Right.
